Middle America rocker John Mellencamp is pissed that The National Organization for Marriage, a group that seeks to prevent same-sex marriages, has been using his anthemic, bread-basket celebrating song "Pink Houses" at their rallies without his permission. Mellencamp's politics differ from those of NOM; the singer is pro same-sex marriage and does not want his music associated with the organization. His publicist sent a letter to the group expressing the singer's adverse viewpoints. In the letter, Mellencamp asks the group to "find music from a source more in harmony with [their] views."
Amen to Mellencamp for standing up for his views and for taking a stand against NOM for using his music without asking and because it is not in concert with his personal beliefs.
What the hell is up with political and social organizations once again borrowing music from artists without saying "Please" or asking for permission? What song or artist would suit NOM's views?
