President Barack Obama has announced that he will appoint rocker Jon Bon Jovi to the White House Council On Community Solutions.
The decision was based, in part, on the efforts of the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which has provided affordable housing for low income families, among other endeavours.
Obama said of the Foundation, "These impressive men and women have dedicated their lives and careers to civic engagement and social innovation. I commend them for their outstanding contributions to their communities, and I am confident that they will serve the American people well in their new roles on the White House Council for Community Solutions. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead."
Bon Jovi himself will join the Council, which advises the President on "the best ways to mobilise citizens, nonprofits, businesses and government to work more effectively together to solve specific community needs."
The Council will also enlist corporate and public sector leaders to help pursue their policy goals, provide input about how best to promote innovation, and honour others who are making significant contributions to their own communities.
