The actress, 32, told chat show host Jimmy Kimmell that she's now all ears during the family huddles.
'One time we decided to do some hiking in Colorado – so we had a meeting before our hike,' she said.
'We were hiking four peaks and I was on my Blackberry not paying attention.
'I thought it was going to be a long one but that's all I was listening to.'
Katie said she hadn't realised hubby Tom Cruise's idea of a hike was quite different from her own.
'Our guides pulled out these harnesses and I was like, 'I have to put this on? Are we doing down the side of a mountain?'
'I made my husband go in front of me because a harness doesn't look good on anyone.
'So from now on I pay attention in our meetings.'
Joked Kimmell, 'I can't believe you have meetings. In our house we never had meetings in any form – there was never a meeting!'
