The pop star tied the knot with British comic Russell Brand in a traditional Indian ceremony last month, near to where Russell proposed. After their lavish wedding, the newlyweds travelled to the Maldives for a romantic break. However, their plans for a relaxing holiday were dashed after Katy was bitten by an arachnid, according to Australian magazine Grazia. It is believed the incident happened soon after the loved-up couple arrived at their idyllic location last week.
Following the bite, the 26-year-old singer developed a painful rash on her legs and had to take a course of medication. The pair had reportedly abstained from having sex in the run up to the wedding, but their hopes for a marathon romantic reunion had to be delayed because the antibiotics left Katy feeling drowsy.
Katy and Russell had been staying in the exclusive Soneva Fushi resort, which costs around $8,000-a-night. It is believed the pair chose the stunning location in the Indian Ocean because it is so remote and has been previously visited by stars including Tom Cruise and Madonna.
