Katy Perry's "belief in music" has helped her cope with personal heartache.
Katy split from husband Russell Brand in December last year, following a 14-month marriage. She has thrown herself into work since the break-up, with songs such as Part of Me apparently referencing her relationship struggles.
Katy's music promo for her new single Wide Awake will premiere next week and she says her latest musical offering gives an insight into her life.
"I just wanted to tell a story about myself going through this journey, maybe sometimes trying to get out of the maze. There's good parts; there's bad parts," she told MTV News. "Of course, there has been a lot of things that went on last year that I had to get through and overcome. I think what probably kept me going is just the purity of my belief in music."
In a recent clip from the video, Katy appears to be playing a princess. During her fairy tale journey she comes across Prince Charming, a poisonous strawberry, a cat and a young girl.
Meanwhile, Katy made a surprise appearance at a screening of her documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me this week.
The 27-year-old star sent fans into a frenzy when she thanked the audience for coming to watch her concert film at The Grove in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening.
"Little girls rushed the screen as Katy walked around slapping hands and greeting fans. She managed to sign some autographs and pose for a few pictures before trying to disperse the massive crowd that had gathered around her," a source told People.
"She was all smiles and seemed genuinely excited for her young fans to see the film. The start of the screening was delayed a good 10-15 minutes before Katy sat down in the middle of the screaming crowd for a bit."
