Pop star Katy Perry is said to be hurting following the release of ex-husband Russell Brand's new film.
The singer married the British funnyman in 2010, after a whirlwind romance. The relationship didn't last though and Russell filed for divorce just over a year later. The topic is the subject of a new flick focusing on the comedian, Brand: The Second Coming. Shot during his time as a married man, he talks at length about the relationship and his disillusionment with fame, even hinting he knows the union won't last. Despite Russell being unhappy with the final edit, the feature has been released.
"It hurts like hell for Katy to re-live her painful marriage like this," an insider sighed to Britain's Grazia magazine. "She feels vulnerable and embarrassed.
"The documentary couldn't have come at a worse time. She's in a crossroads career-wise and doesn't feel she deserve this."
On top of the alleged film upset, Katy has been blasted by the press. In particular a piece for New York Magazine, titled Katy Perry and the Fear of a Female Planet, is said to have hurt the 31-year-old beauty. Originally the article was called What Is the Point of Katy Perry, Even? but the star had it changed. However comments comparing her unfavourably to Taylor Swift and labelling her a void were left in.
"The comparisons to Taylor stung," the source said. "It's an open secret that Taylor's Bad Blood (song) was directed at Katy; she feels attacked from all sides, but she's tried to adopt quite a spiritual approach to all this negativity and has changed her Twitter biography to Growing."
Katy and Taylor famously fell out, with Taylor hinting at the argument in numerous interviews. One theory says they had a dispute over John Mayer, who Katy dated after Taylor. Katy is also said to have previously asked two of her dancers to leave Taylor's tour to dance on hers.
