MADRID — Did you hear the story about the elephant at Katy Perry and Russell Brand's wedding? How about the one about the man-eating tiger that gatecrashed the ceremony and had to be beaten back by armed guards?
Of course you did, because in the days following Perry and Brand's wedding in India last month, it seemed like everyone was talking about the couple's ceremony. And not only was most of what they were saying bizarrely animal-based, it was also incorrect.
To their credit, the newlyweds didn't get mad about the reams of misinformation circulating about their marriage. In fact, they found all of it to be pretty funny, as Perry told on Sunday night (November 7) on the purple carpet for the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards, where Perry performed "Firework" and took home the Best Video prize for "California Gurls."
"I actually I was too busy getting married [to notice]," she laughed. "I don't mind my wedding has turned into kind of a myth. It's kind of cool. We kept it kind of private, so when we heard some of the things that were going around we were like, 'Ah, that's hilarious.' "
And on the EMA carpet — which Perry walked arm-in-arm with Brand, marking the couple's first public appearance since their mythological wedding — KP was not only still laughing about all those rumors, she was positively glowing with wedded bliss. And she was more than willing to share a little bit of that joy with us.
"[The wedding] was fantastic," she laughed.
The 2010 MTV EMA show airs on MTV2 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
