A US entertainment website revealed last month that someone had come forward to buy the rights for Kim Kardashian Superstar from adult movie house Vivid.
A lawyer wrote to Vivid boss Steve Hirsch saying: 'I was approached by a private party who has asked us about looking into the possibility of acquiring all rights of the Vivid, Kim Kardashian Sex Tape.'
The mystery buyer also wanted to take any unreleased footage that never made it to the DVD.
It was initially suspected that Kardashian was the one making the offer in order to remove the embarrassing tape from the market. However, now Hirsch has reportedly told TMZ.com, who initially broke the story, the buyer is not her.
He said: 'It made sense the entire time it would be Kim, but it appears it’s not.”
Hirsch said he met with the buyer's rep several times in the last week - but the buyer's still several million dollars short of Hirsch’s $30m asking price.
