After a hiccup and a long blog post from Weird Al, it seems Lady Gaga has approved a parody of 'Born This Way' that's already online.
First reports, from Weird Al Yankovic himself, said that Gaga had denied permission for the parody master to make fun of the title track to her new album.
Yankovic wrote on his site: "I wrote and recorded what I thought was going to be the first single off of my new album: a parody of 'Born This Way' by Lady Gaga called 'Perform This Way'. But after hearing it, Lady Gaga decided not to give me permission to release the song, so… it won't be coming out commercially anytime in the near future. Sorry."
He elaborated at length here, but basically, Al says that Gaga's people wanted to hear the song, even after getting his lyrics, so he quickly recorded it right after he returned from his recent Australian tour. Then she apparently said "no".
He's uploaded it to YouTube, but it has come to light that Gaga never heard it, and claims to be "a huge Weird Al fan" according to a comment to the A.V. Club.
She has personally approved the version, so we can expect to hear Weird Al's new album sooner than previously thought.
If you can't wait for the inevitably wacky clip, the YouTube version with lyrics that Weird Al posted is below.
