Lady Gaga isn't joining the ubiquitous mockery of Rebecca Black, instead referring to her as 'a genius'.
Black said in an interview with MTV ' freaked out. I'm 13 and I never thought Lady Gaga would even know my name. I'm the kind of girl that dances to Lady Gaga with a hairbrush in her room at night.'
To be fair, Gaga was referring to Black's ability to generate over 50 million views and gain worldwide attention, rather than Black's actual music, which she wasn't familiar with. She made the comment in an interview conducted by Google where fans asked her questions.
''m wondering, have you seen the video called 'Friday' by Rebecca Black?' a fan who introduced herself as Logan asked, to which Gaga responded 'No.'
'This is the latest internet sensation and it's this thirteen year old girl who made a video and now it's online and everyone's making fun of it and just criticising it as really cheesy, which it is, but she's only thirteen,' Logan continued. ''m curious about your reaction to YouTube as a form for new artists and for some of the criticism that maybe young people get for going online and on the other side, there is the Justin Biebers that are getting famous through YouTube, so what do you think about the future of fame through YouTube?'
' think it's fantastic. I think Rebecca Black is a genius and anyone who is telling her that she's cheesy is full of shit,' Gaga curtly responded.
At the time of writing, Rebecca Black's 'Friday' had 50,488,957 views on YouTube, with 97,541 'likes' and 815,123 'dislikes'.
