Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Usher are among the musicians who are giving up social networking websites for a charity campaign organised by Alicia Keys.
The trio are three of the celebrities Keys has asked to stop using sites including Facebook and Twitter from Tuesday (November 30), World Aids Day. They have agreed to stay off the sites until her Keep A Child Alive raises $1million (£640,000), reports the Associated Press.
The campaign, called the Digital Life Sacrifice, will see Lady Gaga temporarily sever direct ties with her Twitter followers, who number over seven million and subscribe to her page at Twitter.com/ladygaga.
Timberlake and Usher send out tweets from Twitter.com/jtimberlake and Twitter.com/usherraymonddiv.
Keys, who also enlisted Elijah Wood, Jennifer Hudson and Serena Williams for the campaign, said no-one had turned down her request to sign up. "Once I got people on the phone and I was able to paint the concept for them, everybody was in,” she said.
Those participating have filmed “last tweet and testament” videos set to be shown a part of adverts for the charity.
