Lady Gaga is reportedly planning to open a foundation for disadvantaged children.
The eccentric singer is currently in India after she performed at the after-party for the first Indian Grand Prix last night. Before taking to the stage, Gaga decided to visit an orphanage in New Delhi. Spending time with the kids inspired her to want to use her fame to help others.
"Gaga would one day like to set up a foundation in her name to help children and, now her career has really taken off, she feels as if it's the right time to do something," a source told British newspaper The Sun. "She isn't the type of celebrity who just throws cash at things though. She wants to research it all properly and do something huge.
"She knows it will be a massive amount of work but she wants to start by getting involved in some orphanages that already exist and devote some of her time and money to helping them."
Gaga reportedly begged music bosses to let her spend at least three hours at the NAZ foundation care home so she could give the children music lessons.
Gaga arrived wearing plain jeans and a T-shirt and armed with a series of treats for the kids including pasta, cookies, bread and soup. She chose not to sit on a chair, preferring to sit on the floor with the young people.
She also reportedly presented the orphanage – which cares for children who are HIV positive - with a 64 inch television, Play Station, videos and 3D glasses.
Anjali Gopalan, founder of the orphanage, was thrilled when the superstar decided to visit.
"It was utterly refreshing and surprising" he is quoted as saying by India Today. "Hardly anyone of her stature has done that before.
When the children begged her to sing a song for them, she belted out her hit Born this Way.
"There was absolutely no hype about her and she comes straight from the heart," Gopalan added. "Lady Gaga is well informed about HIV and told the children to take their medicines regularly and eat well so they could stay strong."
