The long list of finalist for Canada's Polaris Prize were announced on Thursday in Vancouver with Leonard Cohen making the cut among all of the up and comers and established modern artists. The Polaris Prize is given to the album deemed the best of the year by a Canadian artist based strictly on merit and not on genre or record sales. The award includes a $30,000 prize.
Cohen is up for his album Old Ideas and is the only veteran artist to be among the nominees. Popular modern artists also on the list include Drake, Kathleen Edwards, Feist and previous winners Fucked Up.
