Major League Baseball Announces National Anthem and "Star-Spangled Banner" Singers for World Series

Major League Baseball has lined up the artists that will sing the National Anthem and "Star-Spangled Banner" during the World Series that no one will be watching! I am sorry, I am a bitter Phillies fan who hates that pitcher Cliff Lee is no longer with the Phillies and that the Giants beat the Phils in the NLCS. I do think that this is a lackluster Fall Classic, though, and believe that the ratings will take a serious dip, since these are not "big name" teams. Fuck the underdog story, too.

Anyway, the point of this news post is that soul singer John Legend will perform the national anthem tonight at Game 1 of the series between the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers. while country trio Lady Antebellum is set to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" on Thursday at Game 2. Games 1 and 2 will take place in San Francisco.

When things move East to Arlington, Texas for Game 3 on Saturday, pop singer and former American Idol champion Kelly Clarkson will sing the anthem. Texas is her home state, so she is probably going to be wearing a Rangers jersey. Game 3 is scheduled to begin a few minutes before 7 PM EST, the earliest start for a World Series game in more than 20 years.
