Manu Chao - the legendary French-Spanish performer and songwriter – has announced that he and his band Radio Bemba Sound System will be third from the top of the bill, under Jay-Z, on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury on Saturday 28th June (7.15 - 8.30pm) and headlining the Jazz/World Stage on Sunday 29th June (10.45pm – midnight).
On the 30th June, Manu will reissue two of his highly acclaimed albums and a live DVD through Because Music.
'Proxima Estacion: Esperanza' is Manu's Grammy nominated, second studio album, released in 2001, following the enormous success of 'Clandestino' in 1998. The album takes it's name from one of Madrid's metro stations, translating literally as 'Next Station: Hope'. The album sold 3 million copies worldwide and lead to the live tour 'Proxima Estacion: Esperanza', which in turn resulted in the million-selling 2002 live album 'Radio Bemba Sound System'. The album includes a live version of the smash hit 'Bongo Bong'. 'Babylonia en Guagua' is the accompanying DVD to the live album. It was filmed in Paris at the Grande Halle de la Villette on the 4th and 5th September 2001. It includes live footage, documentaries and two films, one of which, 'Infinita Tristeza' is directed by Chao himself.
On the 12th July, Manu Chao will appear on Channel 4's 'Live From Abbey Road' where he performs a special acoustic set with his long-time guitarist Madjid Fahem and percussionist Sandro Lustosa. The series runs features the likes of Paul Simon, Kate Nash, Gnarls Barkley, Massive Attack, Mary J Blige, Panic! At The Disco, Primal Scream, The Killers and many more.
Manu Chao and Radio Bemba Sound System will also be headlining the Main stage at The Lovebox Festival, in London's Victoria Park, on Saturday 19th July, his only London show this year.
The Politik Kills remix EP is now available on download and 12" vinyl and includes remixes by UK reggae maestro Dennis Bovell, featuring an additional vocal by the legendary dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson, by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell & Paul "Groucho" Smykle and a version by Prince Fatty, whose 'recent credits include Lily Allen's smash 'Alright Still', and more.
The original version of Politik Kills is one of the standout tracks from Chao's much-acclaimed La Radiolina album, which was released in September 2007, andhas just won a Billboard Latin Music Award in the 'Best Rock / Alternative Album' category.
