The entertainer told Oprah Winfrey that 18-year-old Michael Bryan, a Mormon, was not gay and that played no role in his suicide.
'My son was not gay. He wanted to be married and have a family and travel all over the world,' she said. 'And it wouldn't matter if he was - I have a daughter who's gay. She was the most offended by the rumours. The claims imply that everyone who's gay commits suicide.'
Osmond also denied reports that Bryan, who had struggled with drugs, was under the influence when he leapt from his apartment to his death.
'My son was clean when he jumped. There were no drugs in his system, but I believe the ramifications were there,' she said.
Osmond revealed that her son had tried to kill himself before, while she was a contestant on Dancing With the Stars in 2007. 'He promised he would never do anything like that again and I believed him,' she said.
