The 2012 MTV Movie Awards got off to an unexpected start when "Ted" co-stars Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg took the stage to present the night's first award, Best On-Screen Dirtbag.
"Throughout history, dirtbags have succeeded at rising to the top of their industry," Kunis started before being unexpectedly interrupted by a man in the audience. What he yelled was largely inaudible, however, the interference shocked the Golden Globe-nominated "Black Swan" starlet.
"Really?" she asked, clearly annoyed at having been interrupted.
That's when Wahlberg, never a man to be messed with, stepped in. "Excuse me," he said. Unsure what the man had yelled, he turned to Kunis and continued, "What'd he say?"
When MTV News caught up with Wahlberg backstage, he explained the situation from his perspective, but said he was going to let the slight slide this time.
"When I came onstage, some random heckler in the crowd said something vulgar to Mila," he told our Josh Horowitz. "So that's why I got a little upset. I did say somebody was going to get slapped, but I figure it's Sunday, I went to church, I'm feeling forgiving right now."
Looking to press forward during the moment, Kunis attempted to hold off the tough-guy actor, telling Wahlberg, "Doesn't matter, go ahead."
It's a good thing she did: The muscle-bound star seemed ready to defend his co-star. "And here I thought I was gonna have to slap Russell," Wahlberg joked of host Russell Brand's famously biting humor before moving on to present the Best On-Screen Dirtbag prize to Jennifer Aniston for her performance as a harassing dentist in "Horrible Bosses."
Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what just happened at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards!
