The 32-year-old actor, who plays drama teacher Will Schuester, told the Hollywood Reporter that he is planning to focus on publicizing his debut album over the next few months.
"I want to put all my eggs into music for this hiatus," he said. "I've worked so hard on it. I wanted to give it its due."
He added that his music has taken a different direction to that which he had planned when he first started recording.
"When I started the process, I had a vision of what I wanted it to be, and it's now completely different… I went into it wanting a Justin Timberlake-meets-Michael Bublé kind of feel, but what came out of it was something more raw."
