Mel C slags Virgin

Melanie C has slammed her former record label Virgin Records for not giving her second solo album "the chance it deserved".

Mel admits her new album due early in 2005 reflects "a lot of anger and frustration."

Former Sporty Spice also says she has acquired two new tattoos on her wrists which say "love and happiness in Tibetan" to refleck her new state of mind.

The 30-year-old singer parted company at the end of last year with EMI's Virgin label amid reports she was dumped following the release of Reason which sold a reported 7,000 copies in its first week.

She will release her third album, rumoured to be called Better Alone, on her own Red Girl label.

She told fans at her website, www.melaniec.net, "I didn't realise how liberating it would be leaving Virgin. I was very inspired by my new found freedom.

"I also had a lot of anger and frustration to vent after Reason wasn't given the chance it deserved. I truly believe this is the strongest album I've worked on. I have no idea how it will be received but I am very excited and proud of how it's turned out.

"The album's almost ready so it's photo and video time. In the New Year we'll be starting promotion."

Unconfirmed titles of songs for the new album include Never Say Never, Empty and You Will See.
