Melissa Auf Der Maur follow up album

Melissa Auf Der Maur has finished writing songs for the follow up to her 2004 debut album 'Auf Der Maur'.

The singer has been working from a family home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts in order to get ideas down on tape and aims to start recording by June 1 after “five or six weeks doing pre-production”.

”I just came out of hibernation," she said. “Now I want to make sure all the songs are finely tuned, and really start to understand the message and theme of the record."

Speaking to Billboard, Auf Der Maur revealed that she's “been in the studio for the past two weeks recording phase one demos of all the songs I wrote on the four-track. I need to turn them into understandable forms for the people who will play on the album."

Though no tracklisting has been announced, the singer has confirmed that 'Mother's Red Box' is the only working title not likely to be changed.

'Auf Der Maur' featured a host of collaborators including Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme and Mark Lanegan, as well as former bandmates - Hole's Eric Erlandson and Smashing Pumpkins' James Iha.

However, Auf Der Maur has said that she is hoping to introduce a new set of musicians to play on the next record, saying: “Josh is my absolute favourite musician. I would love to make every record with the guy. But for this, I feel like I do have to start anew. I need to make a record about right now in my life. With the exception of (long-time collaborator) Steve (Durand), I'm pretty sure all the people will be new.”

The singer is hoping to release the her second LP in late 2005 but is prepared for an early 2006 launch saying, "I would like to have it out this year, but the whole thing in the fall happens with the Christmas rush. I'm flexible, because I can always be busy and tour before it comes out."
