The 18-year-old first clapped eyes on the bass player in 2009, and is believed to have swapped numbers with him at the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid last November.
A source told HollywoodLife.com that the pair have been texting ever since.
'Miley wants to keep Jared interested. She often sends him coy text messages. So far, he is a big fan of what she has been sending.
'Jared loves showing off his texts from Miley. He thinks she's very pretty and is excited she's still flirting with him.'
The former Hannah Montana star and Jared, 24, both hail from Nashville, in the US.
