Based on best-selling novelist NICHOLAS SPARKS' (The Notebook) latest novel, THE LAST SONG is set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenage daughter (MILEY CYRUS), who'd rather be home in New York. He tries to reconnect with her through the only thing they have in common—music—in a story of family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and second chances.
THE LAST SONG is the feature debut of British director JULIE ANNE ROBINSON (Grey's Anatomy). In her first dramatic role in a film, MILEY CYRUS plays Ronnie and Australian actor LIAM HEMSWORTH is introduced as Will Blakelee. The film also stars GREG KINNEAR as Steve Miller and KELLY PRESTON as Kim Miller. NICHOLAS SPARKS wrote the screenplay (his first) with JEFF VAN WIE.
Disney has had an affiliation with the Great Ormond Street Hospital since 1939 when Walt Disney acquired the animation rights to the Peter Pan story. Now The Walt Disney Company Ltd is working with the charity (Registered Charity no. 235825) to raise £10million towards its amazing redevelopment. The money raised will contribute towards the construction of a new restaurant, and café area. The restaurant area will be brought to life by Disney 'Imagineers' and will fuse leading edge media and technologies with the timeless appeal of Disney to create a welcoming area that will be used by patients, families, visitors and staff.
Karen O'Donoghue, Head of Corporate Account Management at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Disney is supporting the hospital's fundraising appeal through the premiere of THE LAST SONG".
THE LAST SONG is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in the UK and Ireland and will open nationwide on April 30th.
