As My Bloody Valentine gear up for their first gigs in 16 years at their historic five-night run at the Roundhouse, lynchpin Kevin Shields and drummer Colm O'Ciosoig have told Xfm.co.uk that a new album may see the light of day.
Xfm caught up with the notoriously press-shy pair at the Mojo Honours List 2008 where My Bloody Valentine picked up the Classic Album gong for 1991's 'Loveless'.
The news of the band's reunion gigs at the Roundhouse earlier this year sent box offices into meltdown and what was originally mooted as a series of one-off gigs soon turned into an epic five-night run at Camden's Roundhouse and two nights each in Manchester and Glasgow.
When asked what prompted the reunion, mainman Kevin Shields said: "We were always gonna do it so we just did. We would've ideally done a record first and then done some gigs in ideal world but we're not in an ideal world."
But what of the mooted third album? Received wisdom has it that the album was partially recorded but never completed thanks to the budget (rumoured to be around £500,000) being used up and a lack of label support. Xfm wondered when it will ever be released?
"Whenever I get the chance to finish it," replied Shields. "It was pretty much three quarters made in the 90s. We've got no label support so everything will be finished pretty much independently."
Colm Ciosoig added philosophically: "It's [completion and release is] a very real possibility. There's some good stuff. Yeah, it's just one of those things that had to be that way I guess."
My Bloody Valentine begin their five-night run in the Roundhouse tonight (June 19) before heading to Manchester's Apollo (28 & 29) and Glasgow's Barrowlands (July 2 & 3).
