Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine have announced that the band has finished mastering the material for a new EP, their first release of new material since 1991's Loveless.
Shields told NME that "I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who've heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that's about it – some people think it's stranger than Loveless. I don't. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it's 100 per cent necessary."
The band has only released two full length albums, 1988's Isn't Anything and 1991's Loveless, but were very active in putting out two mini albums and seven EP's between 1985 and 1991. After their last release, they signed with Island Records but never delivered a complete album. Shields, in his words, went "crazy" while the other members of the group went their separate ways.
My Bloody Valentine reunited in 2007 and have since played a number of festivals along with other dates, leading to the interview with NME and the announcement on the band's Facebook page saying "On 21-12-12 we finished mastering the new album!"
The release date is unknown but the band has said in the past that they will self-release on their website, so it could be almost anytime.
