Gus Van Sant, director of 'Elephant' and 'My Own Private Idaho', has reportedly penned a script for a grunge period drama.
The film, rumoured to be titled 'Last Days' will focus on the mid-90s Seattle music scene, and more specifically on the rise of a rock band fronted by an intense leader uncomfortable with the band's sudden rise to fame.
But while the project is not being billed as a Nirvana biopic, the similarities between the fictional group and the seminal band are said to be fairly obvious. Van Sant has reportedly signed a deal with HBO films, though its not clear yet whether it will see general release on the big screen, or will be shown on the company's American cable channel.
The 22-year old actor Michael Pitt ('The Dreamers', 'Murder By Numbers') is being touted to play the part of the band's frontman as he has been involved with Van Sant's project for some time.
