One Direction are set to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards for the very first time, and we're celebrating the VMA virgins with the brand-new MTV special "One Direction: My First Time."
The special is set to air Thursday, August 30, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. The guys of 1D will host the special, which will not only feature their preparations for the big show, but also the most memorable VMA performances of all time.
"One Direction: My First Time" will include appearances from fellow 2012 performers Pink, Green Day and Taylor Swift, who will recall their own first times taking the VMA stage with never-before-heard tales. The VMA vets will offer up some choice wisdom to the One Direction guys, who will take the stage themselves Thursday, September 6, when the show goes live from Staples Center in Los Angeles. They are also up for two Moonmen: Best New Artist and Best Pop Video for their "What Makes You Beautiful" clip.
One Direction want to go big for their first appearance on the VMAs. "It's quite nerve-racking, because obviously there's been so many historical moments and stuff that have happened at the VMAs," 1D's Liam Payne told earlier this summer. "Now we want to make a moment ourselves, but who knows?
"I think performing at the VMAs is such a huge occasion," Payne added. "I think it ranks up there with one of the best performances we'll do so far."
