Back in 2010, Zayn, Liam, Harry, Niall and Louis were just five teenagers walking into the "X Factor" audition room with one goal: to make it big. More than two years later, they are sitting on top of the Billboard charts with their number one album, Take Me Home.
The guys of One Direction have achieved an overwhelming amount of success since Simon Cowell grouped them together on the U.K. version of "The X Factor." In March, they released their debut album, Up All Night, which has sold 1.3 million copies to date in the U.S. They avoided the sophomore slump all together with Take Me Home.
MTV News caught up with the fivesome recently and they admitted that they could never have imagined that they would be in the position they are in today.
"I don't think you could ever envision anything like this," Louis Tomlinson said. "We just feel so lucky to be involved in it. When you actually sit down and think about where we've come in two years, maybe nearly three years...it's absolutely amazing. It sounds really obvious and everyone always says it, but we do have the best fans in the world."

And to think that just a few years ago, these guys had no idea who each other were. The boys failed to progress individually during their stint on the "The X Factor," but were assembled as a boy band and finished third in the competition.
So what did the guys really think of each other when they first found out they were going to be a group?
"Louis was so quiet when I first met him, now you can't shut him up," Liam Payne said.
"Niall was really loud," Harry Styles said. "He just walked around with a guitar."
Niall Horan interjected, "Really because I had no friends and was trying to get myself friends but wasn't doing a very good job of it."

Zayn Malik chimed in about their first conversation together, "It was actually strange because we'd seen each other a bit at boot camp but we hadn't really spoken to each other much. Like when we first got put together we went back and the first conversation we had Niall was like 'I think we should all dress like Louis,' and we were just like 'yeah, sick.' "
