One Direction Take Home Moonman #2 With Best Pop Video VMA Win

The guys of One Direction are making their first-ever MTV Video Music Awards a memorable one. After winning the Most Share-Worthy Video category, the five lads took home their second Moonman of the night for Best Pop Video on Thursday (September 6).

They won for their sunny "What Makes You Beautiful" clip, which follows the flop-topped fivesome as they goof off in the sand. The song was their breakthrough jam off their album, Up All Night. Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan were on hand to accept their award from previous VMA winner Katy Perry (who gave each of the guys a kiss) inside L.A.'s Staples Center and seemed overjoyed by the chance to bring their first-ever Moonman home with them, even if it will end up back in the U.K. a bit battered.

"Wow, thank you very much Katy. Thanks for the kiss. Thank you so much. We've grown up watching this show. And to even be here is an honor and to collect one of these is absolutely incredible. Straightaway we would like to thank the most important people: our fans who have followed us through our two year rollercoaster journey and have helped us win this award for Best Pop Video. So thank you," Niall Horan said. "This one's for you guys."

"I just want to say we've had this award for two seconds and already we broke it so there's a good start," Liam Payne joked. "It's amazing to be here. I also want to say a massive thank you to our team backstage." Louis Tomlinson wrapped up their speech, adding, "Just a few more thank you's. We want to thank Simon Cowell and everyone at Syco. Our incredible label, Columbia. And of course [Columbia executive] Steve Barnett for belieiving in us from the start. This one's for the fans."

The guys beat out Fun. (featuring Janelle Monae for "We Are Young"), Rihanna ("We Found Love"), Justin Bieber ("Boyfriend") and Maroon 5 (featuring Wiz Khalifa for "Payphone"). The guys are up for a third Moonman for Best New Artist.

Their illustrious VMA introduction comes hot on the heels of a big time for the guys as they embark on the release of their sophomore album, Take Me Home. The album hits the stores on November 13. Their single, "Live While We're Young," is available on October 1.
