One Direction's Niall Horan believes the band's new album is particularly "edgy".
The singer and his bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne are currently working on their fourth studio offering.
And Niall is convinced their fans will be surprised by the transformed sound of their music.
"I think it's going to be a little bit more edgy," Niall revealed on America's Today show. "But obviously we feel like we've got some really good songs and we are happy."
Fellow bandmember Liam agrees with his bandmate's sentiments.
And he confirms the entire group helped craft tunes on their new album.
"We've all taken a hand in the writing this time," Liam explained. "And we've literally written almost every song."
The band didn't reveal exactly when their forthcoming offering will be released.
They are currently travelling the world on their Where We Are Tour and the amount of people flocking to stadiums to see them perform blows their minds to this day.
"We have moments, especially on this tour, when you step out to these amazing stadiums and stuff. We end up spending the first 20 minutes just standing there looking at each other going, 'Wow look where we are.' It's just unbelievable what's happened," Niall said, with Liam noting: "I remember I sat watching the Super Bowl thinking, 'How are we going to get on stage and play to that many people?' It's amazing, but our fans are so amazing every single night and it's nice to play to a crowd that genuinely love you, it's amazing."
