Pete Doherty has claimed he has stopped injecting drugs and has also confirmed that he is the father of South African models Lindi Hingston's child.
Speaking to The Independent in an interview, Doherty said “I've stopped injecting. The only way I can see myself in a serious relationship is if I am toning it down a bit. When you're banging up all day you can't really have someone else in your life, especially if she's an English rose. I wouldn't let her touch anything. I just wouldn't.”
Inspired to clean up his act by his new girlfriend, Doherty is now a father of two, previously having his first child, Astille, with Kill City singer Lisa Moorish back in 2003. Saying that he was upset that the mother of his second child sold her story to the newspapers he went on to joke that he would use his daughters blood for a new painting to be included in a part of his new exhibition opening at London Cob Gallery on Feb 26 – March 4.
“I'm really surprised she's done that [talked to a newspaper]. The little girl was two months premature. I said I'd try to be there for the birth," he said, before confirming: "Yeah, she's mine. We're using the baby's blood in one of the pictures."
Doherty recently turned to the live stage in London with two acoustic shows at Brixton Jamm last month and a further date at Nambucca earlier this month. The shows included a number of new songs ‘Siberian Fur’ and ‘Bird Cage’ which feature long time pal Wolfman and singer Suzi Martin.
