The Pete Doherty saga continued as the weekends much anticipated London leg of his solo show at Camden's Barfly was cancelled at the last minute following an alleged altercation with venue security.
The estranged Libertine Doherty failed to make it to the stage last night (August 2), following an afternoon ‘matinee' performance (apparently a thank you to all who tried to buy tickets for the show and failed) which led to Doherty arriving at the Barfly complete with a gaggle of fans and supporters.
However, it is alleged problems arose when security took issue with Doherty's friend / guitar technician ‘Chev' entering the venue. It is reported that an altercation ensued which concluded with Doherty and entourage leaving the venue for a spontaneous performance at his flat.
Leaving 300 disappointed fans inside the venue, the party departed for Doherty's flat complete with some fans who had travelled from as far as Scotland for the gig in tow.
Seemingly split down the middle, many fans have contacted Xfm angry at being let down by the troubled singer, while others have expressed jubilation at experiencing yet another ‘guerilla' gig in the spot that seems be London's fastest growing venue: Pete's front room.
"I was at the matinee gig at his flat and Peter was chipper, clear minded and very sociable and gave an excellent performance," one fan explains. "He was an excellent host. Peter was on top form and sang a variety of Libs and 'Shambles songs whilst perched atop his sideboard and we had a good old sing along. From his laptop Peter played the Babyshambles recording of 'Killamangiro' (which he said should be out in September) and sounds very good.
Doherty is currently set to perform tonight at a sold-out show at the Scala with friend Wolfman and his band The Side Effects.
