Pete Doherty has quit drugs for his estranged dad.
The Babyshambles frontman claims he has been clean for two months because he is desperate to reconcile with his father Peter who has refused to see him until he is clean.
The rocker said: "I've been off the really bad stuff for a couple of months.
I want to prove that I can do it and see him face-to-face without the disappointment in his eyes."
The army officer has arranged for Pete to take a drug test at the end of the month and if results show he has stopped using the illegal substances they will meet at a vegetarian restaurant in Brighton.
Peter vowed in 2005 to have no contact with his son until he beat his addictions. Since then they have only reunited briefly following the musician's stay at The Priory rehab centre for heroin and crack cocaine addictions in 2007.
But their short reunion ended when the troubled singer relapsed.
The 29-year-old rocker said: "It's breaking my heart that for him the be-all and end-all of our relationship is whether or not there's something despicable in my bloodstream. I'm coping mostly and I'm mostly clean, I won't lie to you it is a struggle. My dad and I are estranged. In his mind if I'm still using in any way then I'm not his son. But my mum speaks to me secretly."
