Country hitmaker Randy Travis was arrested Monday morning in Sanger, Texas for suspicion of public intoxication.
Travis was parked in front of the First Baptist Church in Sanger when he was approached by the police. The officers reported smelling alcohol in the car and Randy's slurred speech and, upon inspection, found an open bottle of wine. Travis told the officers that he had a fight with his girlfriend and was trying to return to his home in Tioga, TX. An officer said that "Mr. Travis was unaware of his location and kept asking me to take him home."
The singer was detained at the Denton County Jail and was released after six hours. He was charge with public intoxication, a misdemeanor.
Later in the day, Travis issued the following statement to the Associated Press:
I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl. I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions.
Randy is currently celebrating his 25th anniversary in the business.
