Reese Witherspoon is 'doing fine' after her arrest for disorderly conduct on Friday (19.04.13).
The 'Mud' actress's close pal Chelsea Handler has insisted the incident in Atlanta, Georgia, was 'not a big deal' and that the 37-year-old mother-of-three is coping well.
The E! chat show host told 'Entertainment Tonight': 'She's doing fine. She's doing fine, you know?
'She was just trying to protect her husband, so...I mean everybody makes mistakes, so it's not a big deal.'
Reese, who welcomed her third child in September, and her CAA agent husband Jim Toth were arrested after a police officer noticed their Ford Fusion weaving into the lane for oncoming traffic.
Jim was given a sobriety test and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) while Reese was arrested after she ignored two warnings not to exit their vehicle and became increasingly agitated with the police officer.
She asked the arresting officer: 'Do you know my name? You are going to be on national news.'
The actress issued on apology on Sunday, saying: 'Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse.
'I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behaviour.'
The couple are due in court in Atlanta on their respective charges on May 22 and May 23.
