Outrageous musical collective THE BIG OL' NASTY GETDOWN is set to release their latest single "Mantra" on May 10th. With a deep open pocket, funky dance groove and neo-soul vibe, "Mantra" features multi-Grammy winning vocalists Kendra Foster (Parliament-Funkadelic/D'Angelo's Vanguard) and Speech (Arrested Development).
These beautifully produced vocals blend perfectly alongside Norwood Fisher (Fishbone), Tori Ruffin (The Time/Freak Juice), Jeffery Suttles (The Sexual Chocolate Band), JP Miller, Mary Frances, Derrick Johnson (Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band), Greg Hollowell (Asheville Horns), Greg Thomas (Parliament Funkadelic), Ben Hovey and Debrissa McKinney (Empire Strikes Brass).
Producers John Heintz and Frank Mapstone mixed and produced "Mantra" at Studio 606 (The Foo Fighters private studio) on the old "Soundcity" mixing console. Joe Gastwirt, who is well known for his work on several albums for Crosby Stills & Nash, Tom Petty, 311 and The Grateful Dead, mastered "Mantra".
This year, The Getdown has been busy tracking new material with Jack Irons (Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam), Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Larry Dunn (Earth, Wind & Fire), Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Taylor Dayne, Leon Mobley (Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals) and Greg Thomas (Parliament Funkadelic).
Look for THE BIG OL' NASTY GETDOWN's VOLUME 2, as well as a 7" vinyl featuring a track recorded with George Clinton and Motown legend Sidney Barnes to be released later this year.
