Ross ‘pushing the envelope’ with Jay-Z

Rick Ross is eager for his boundary-pushing single with Jay-Z to "hit the streets".

The hip-hop star revealed this week his forthcoming album Mastermind features a track with his long-term musical collaborator Jay-Z called The Devil is a Lie.

Although Rick, 37, remained tight-lipped about the song initially, he is now ready to hear what people have to say about it.

"We went in another direction but it's just one of those records that's gonna speak for itself and everybody's gonna have their opinion of it," he told MTV News.

"We're pushing the envelope once again and it's just one of those records I can't wait to hit the streets."

Rick has had a string of highly publicised run-ins with the law, including being a target of a drive-by shooting earlier this year. Both he and his girlfriend were involved, but neither was hurt.

He also initiated a high profile feud with fellow rapper 50 Cent, after 50 supposedly looked at him the wrong way at the 2009 BET Awards.

Rick looks to Jay-Z for guidance in his musical career.

"Me coming into the game in '06 off of my first single, which caused a big war, at the end of the day, it was the conversations I had with Jay-Z that ultimately made me choose Def Jam Records [Jay-Z was president of the label at the time]. Ever since then I always came to the table with new records to let him check me," Rick explained.

"From my second album, to my third and fourth, anytime I needed a collaboration, he always made it happen. He's been out of the country [for] some events, I've [called] him last minute and he made it happens. So there's was always been that genuine respect."

Mastermind is due for release in December.
