Seems the rumours are true, Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen will portray Freddie Mercury in a new film.
Deadline New York has revealed that Baron Cohen has sealed the deal to play Freddie Mercury in a Queen biopic, starting production next year.
The as-yet-untitled film is being scripted by Peter Morgan, who wrote Frost/Nixon, Last King Of Scotland, The Special Relationship, and, fittingly, The Queen.
The story will follow the band from the beginning to their definitive 1985 appearance at Live Aid.
Producers have reportedly acquired the rights to Queen tunes 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'We Will Rock You', 'We Are the Champions', 'Another One Bites The Dust' and 'You're My Best Friend'.
Producers GK Films said in a statement: "Freddie Mercury was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role coupled with Peter's screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success."
Sacha Baron Cohen remains almost completely untested in non-comedic roles.
