The Beautiful Girls singer and a female friend were seriously injured in May after their high-speed jet ski crashed into a bridge in Miami Beach.
The two were pulled from the water by passers-by, who told reporters that blood was gushing from a cut on Kingston's neck and that he had been in serious danger of drowning.
Both were semi-conscious when they were rushed to hospital, but they have since made a full recovery.
Now US entertainment website TMZ.com reports that the 21-year-old Miami-born musician “could be cited by police” over the smash.
Kingston is said to be co-operating with an investigation and met with officials from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Committee last week.
Sources say that if Kingston is deemed to have broken any laws – which could include speeding, upsetting wildlife, and careless operation of a watercraft – he will face a maximum fine of $32,500.
