Steve Earle has revealed that he is going back on one of his old rules and is writing finally his memoir.
At the BigSound music conference in Queensland, Earle said that he has decided to write his memoirs to earn money to pay for medical attention for his two-year old son who is autistic. He said insurance in the USA does not cover the condition and despite have vowed before not to write a memoir he says he has changed his mind for his son.
"I have never done anything for money before but I'm doing a few things now. I don't think I'll go to hell for it," Steve said.
"The people I feel sorry for are those who have kids (with autism) but no insurance," he said,
In his BigSound keynote interview Steve Earle also said that he used to have a problem with people who sell their music for ads and like Neil Young said he'd never do it "but then I had an epiphany and realised Neil had been rich since he was 20 and I wasn't".
Steve revealed his next album will be out in early 2013 and will be at SXSW next year.
BigSound will continue in Brisbane until September 14.
