Steve Mason has announced details of the release of a new single, Lost And Found, through Double Six on Monday July 4th 2011.
Released digitally, the single will feature the B-side Lost And Dub, a radical reworking of the track by Steve and Dennis Bovell which features on their forthcoming album Ghosts Outside (a 'dub' version of Steve's Boys Outside long-player) which is released 25th July.
Very much a collaborative effort, Ghosts Outside was recorded in early 2011 at Livingston Studios in North London. Using the original tracks as a basis, with Steve's guidance Dennis added additional instrumentation; the tracks were later given the classic 'Bovell production' treatment.
One of the leading lights of U.K. reggae, Bovell gained renown with his own group, Matumbi and also worked with the likes of Linton Kwesi Johnson, I-Roy, Janet Kay. He also produced a wide diversity of bands including The Pop Group, Orange Juice and The Slits
The A-side, Lost And Found, is taken from his much-applauded solo album, Boys Outside, which was released last year and subsequently featured in many end of year 'best ofs' including Q, Mojo and NME. The 10-track album was produced by Richard X and Steve Mason.
Having recently played a sold-out show at London's Scala, Steve is set to play a number of shows over the summer ' his last of the year before he begins writing his next album. His full list of current gigs are as follows:
