Gimme a beat, to quote Janet "Miss Jackson If You're Nasty" Jackson! For a limited engagement, Street Drum Corps will bring their brand new all-percussion album Big Noise to life at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood. Starting November 16, the band will embark on a four-week residency on Tuesdays. If you're free on a Tuesday and you happen to be in Hollywood, well, you should mosey on over to the Roxy. It's one of my fave LA venues.
SDC will perform their unique brand of drumming via selections from Big Noise and their first two albums, We Are Machines and Street Drum Corps (2006). Special guest stars will make appearances throughout the run, so go often, if you're Tuesdays are open.
Big Noise was produced by SDC and Jamie Rise and recorded in Los Angeles at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 and boasts tracks with guest drumming luminaries like Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver), Shannon Leto (30 Seconds To Mars) and Brandon Saller (Atreyu). The album will be available exclusively at the Roxy shows.
The Roxy shows are inspired by sources as diverse as punk rock and the Borundi drummers of Africa, mixing both traditional instruments and found objects with elements of dance for a unique and visually captivating performance. While staying true to their tribal roots, the band embraces the undeniable call of industrial music.
