The Crickets, Comets and more to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

It's going to be one very long ceremony when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame holds its induction on April 14.

The organization had already announced the honoring of the Beastie Boys, Donovan, Guns N' Roses, Laura Nyro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Small Faces/Faces, Freddie King, Don Kirshner, Cosimo Matassa, Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns, and now they are adding six groups that were criminally overlooked when their lead singers were inducted in the past.

Here are the new members along with their lead singer, the year they were inducted and the members of the group. Note that the Hall has not made the official announcement as of this writing, so we are not sure which members from throughout a group's history will be inducted.

Crickets - Buddy Holly (1986) - Jerry Allison, Joe B. Maudlin, Niki Sullivan, Tommy Allsup, Carl Bunch, Joe B. Mauldin, J.I. Allison, Sonny Curtis
Blue Caps - Gene Vincent (1998) - Willie Williams, Jack Neal, Dickie Harrell, Cliff Gallup, Johnny Meeks
Comets - Bill Haley (1987) - Johnny Grande, Billy Williamson, Rudy Pompilli, Al Rex, Franny Beacher, Ralph Jones, Nick Nastos, John Lane and many, many more
Famous Flames - James Brown (1986) - Bobby Byrd, Johnny Terry, Sylvester Keels, Nash Knox, Nafloyd Scott, Bobby Bennett, "Baby Lloyd" Stallworth and many, many more
Midnighters - Hank Ballard (1990) - Alonzo Tucker, Henry Booth, Charles Sutton, Sonny Woods, Lawson Smith, more
Miracles - Smokey Robinson (1987) - Claudette Rogers, Marv Tarplin, Pete Moore, Bobby Rogers, Ronald White

A special committee made the decision to add each of the groups to the Hall. Terry Stewart, President and CEO of the Hall, told Cleveland.com "There was a lot of discussion about this. There had always been conversations about why the groups weren't included when the lead singers were inducted.

"Very honestly, nobody could really answer that question -- it was so long ago. . . . We decided we'd sit down as an organization and look at that. This is the result. You're looking at some of the lynchpins between rockabilly and vocal-harmony and straight-ahead rock 'n' roll. It speaks to when this music took off. It's a great statement about the early years."
