To this day, few bands conjure up the mystique and timeless quality of The Doors. Founded in 1965 and drawing its moniker from both William Blake and Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, the Los Angeles-based quartet comprised of Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore forever left its mark on worldwide popular music culture.
Generations of new fans continue to discover The Doors 42 years after playing the final show with its iconic front man. Morrison alone wasn't fully responsible for the band's legend and staying power– the band members were oft-described as being "four sides of a diamond."
Keyboardist Manzarek helped define The Doors' unique sound by bringing keys front and center in a band that did not feature a bass player, a rarity for rock bands. Combined with Densmore's jazz-influenced drum play and Krieger's blues and flamenco-tinged guitar, The Doors are a band like no other.
