UK music fans can brace themselves for another dose of thrash metal excellence when Dave Mustaine's notorious band, Megadeth, return to Castle Donington on 11 June as part of the Download Festival.
It will undoubtedly be a poignant show for the metal titans, as it was here in 1988 that a fan died during the band's performance. But part of Megadeth's appeal has always been the way that they have endured numerous setbacks and controversies to continue pleasing their diehard fans with their trademark sound and uncompromising attitude.
The band burst out of the fledgling thrash metal scene of the early 1980s to become one of 'the Big Four' alongside Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer. But it's been Mustaine's complicated relationship with his ex-Metallica bandmates - most famously seen in the Some Kind of Monster documentary - that highlights the singer's prickly disposition.
As well as becoming a born-again Christian, Mustaine has repeatedly made controversial statements regarding gay marriage and religious affairs. But with signs that he might be tempering his foul-mouthed attitude, it's hoped that the Megadeth tour of 2016 can focus on the band's trademark brand of speed metal.
That's not to say that the Megadeth promotional machine hasn't been in full operation, as we've already seen their ace guitarist Kiko Loureiro giving us a GoPro look at what the Holy War solo looks like from the headstock of his guitar. And other technological innovations can be seen via the Megadeth slots game that was recently featured at Mr Smith Casino that's one of the best looking sites offering a range of gambling games from the convenience of a smartphone.
Many metallers will already be familiar with the band's digital endeavours through Megadeth songs such as Hangar 18 and Symphony of Destruction appearing on the Guitar Hero video game series. And bass-player Dave Ellefson has even recently sought to explore the niche market between metal and ice hockey with his Puck Hcky thrash metal fashion line.
But away from such affairs are Megadeth's endless battles with their ever-shifting lineup that has seen fill-in drummer Tony Laureano adding the band to his impressive resumé that already includes the likes of Dimmu Borgir, All That Remains and Brujeria.
However, despite all of the controversy, sonic assaults and Mr Smith Casino games, it seems that Megadeth face their most scandalous revelation yet with the news that Dave Mustaine's daughter is embarking on a career in country music!
