Birmingham will become the ultimate destination for students and music fans alike as Block Party takes over several streets of Digbeth with its wicked blend of headline acts, blazing DJ's, super-clubbing and one-of-a-kind street party vibe. In a musical explosion of RnB, House, Drum & Bass, Grime, Electro, Indie, Mash-Up and Pop, this party, this Block Party, is the hottest party of 2009, and know you know about it.
The main arena will feature major headline acts from the cream of the UK charts, such as The Wombats, Mr. Hudson, Master Shortie and Hadouken, whilst the Bootylicious arena will be serving up a burning mix of Urban UK all-stars, in the form of Number One artist, Tinchy Stryder, MOBO winner, Chipmunk, Dizzee Rascals tour DJ, DJ Semtex, and UK Funk innovators, Crazy Cousinz, in its warehouse style rave.
The city roads of Digbeth will be blocked off, making way for 10,000 revellers and the biggest street and clubbing event of their lives. For the first time ever, the renowned venues, Air, The Custard Factory and The Rainbow, will join forces and be completely taken over, creating the ultimate inner city festival.
The nightlife super-players, Ministry Of Sound, will be delivering their legendary clubbing experience at Factory with DJ's Dave Spoon, Sonny Wharton and Pukka Up's Sam Walker, whilst Bigger Than Barry, Below and Electric Boogaloo each take up residence in respected Digbeth dance venues. Add to this Dillinja & Le Monde's monstrous Valve Soundsystem - a huge drum & bass speaker stack so big it's transported on three lorries - plus dubstep pioneers, Benga & Caspa, as well as three Radio 1 stars – Fabio, Scott Mills and Toddla T. Block Party will also feature exclusive DJ sets from Mystery Jets, Evil 9, N-Trance, the world's best beatboxer Killa Kela, and many more top names from the forefront of UK music.
To completely obliterate the mind of the all that Party on the Block, there will be a full funfair, a silent disco (complete with library surroundings), a massive 80's Ghettoblaster erected in the street, a 3D disco (made famous at this year's Glastonbury), a wickedly wet foam party, rock karaoke and an extreme Skate showcase, making Block Party the absolute mother of all parties.
The Block Party team will be putting on 'Block Party Buses' from over seventy University campuses (within a 2 and a half hour radius), all over the UK, including Cambridge, Leeds, Liverpool, Oxford, Wolverhampton and York, ensuring students get to the event and back safely and without worrying about travel.
