The newly crowned Mercury Music Prize winning debut album from The xx – benefited from an immediate sales uplift of over 500% on Amazon.co.uk following the prize announcement last night, an increase which saw it heading for the top of the music bestsellers chart.
The album, which is available for just £3 in the Amazon.co.uk MP3 store, rose to number two in the online retailer's music bestsellers charts for both CDs and MP3 and could rise further today as people wake up to the news that it has won the prize.
"The win is a great achievement for The xx given the huge popularity of 'Sigh No More' by fellow nominees Mumford & Sons which was way ahead in sales at the beginning of this week," said Julian Monaghan, head of music buying at Amazon.co.uk Ltd "It's not only 'xx' by The xx which has benefited from strong sales following last night's announcement, 'Only Revolutions' by Biffy Clyro, 'Sky at Night' by I Am Kloot and 'Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons are all in our Top Ten MP3 album chart this morning."
