Well-known singer/songwriter and now radio presenter, Tom Robinson, will speak at a free one day conference entitled Creative Minds: Creative Futures, to be hosted by Buckinghamshire New University on Tuesday 24 February. The event will provide local people and prospective students with an insight into many creative areas of study, such as jewellery design, textile design, ceramics and glass making, creative writing and advertising.
Tom is probably best known for his UK hit records such as '2468 Motorway' and 'Glad to be Gay'. Tom Robinson Band (TRB), an overtly political band who had several hits in the 1970s, the most popular and well-known being 'War Baby'. He also became famous as a campaigner for Rock Against Racism, Amnesty Interneational and gay rights.
In 1987, Tom began working for the BBC as a broadcaster and from 1992 –95 fronted The Locker Room on Radio 4 and won a Sony Radio Award in 1997. He has presented programmes on all the BBC's main radio stations, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Live, as well as 6 Music, BBC 7 and BBC World Service, and now presents BBC Introducing: Fresh On The Net for BBC 6 Music every weekend.
Creative Minds: Creative Futures will take place at Wycombe Swan Town Hall and Bucks New University. As well as being the perfect opportunity for young people thinking about their futures, it is ideal for people who are looking for a change of career or want to consider new directions.
The speaker workshops will be filmed and a DVD produced for anyone who is unable to attend or wishes to view the speakers again.
